CRIME SCENE: Toronto cops hunt alleged assailant following east-end assault

A 30-year-old Toronto man is wanted by police after a person was assaulted earlier this month in the Danforth area.

Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call on Feb. 10 at about 3:45 a.m. in the Pape-Danforth Aves. area after the victim was allegedly attacked by the accused.

Jevonn Smith is wanted for assault, assault-choking and failure to comply with an undertaking. He is 5-foot-11 with a thin build and short black hair.

Police urged anyone with information to call 416-808-5500.

Hatchet-wielding man cuffed at Kitchener mall

A 30-year-old Cambridge resident faces a weapon charge and other offences after a man allegedly entered a Kitchener store with a hatchet.

Waterloo Regional Police said they were called to Fairview Park Mall on Saturday at about 7:50 p.m. for reports about a man brandishing a hatchet. Officers determined a hatchet-wielding man entered a store and began acting erratically.

No one was hurt and a suspect was arrested outside of the mall. He was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000, obstructing a peace officer and other offences related to outstanding warrants.

Vehicles targeted in Hamilton’s south end

Police are warning the public to be on the lookout after a “rash” of vehicle break-ins, thefts and other mischief in Hamilton’s south end.

Hamilton Police said they received close to 20 reports, including a vehicle being stolen and others being rummaged through or damaged, on Saturday — from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. — on Upper James St. to the Binbrook area.

Police urged motorists to lock their vehicles at all times, park in well-lit areas, remove valuables, use a car alarm and stash key fobs in signal-blocking bags.
