CRIME SCENE: Toronto man charged with fraud over alleged loan scam

Toronto Police have charged a 48-year-old Toronto man in an alleged fraudulent loan scam targeting the Chinese community.
Wing Fung Wilfred Leung faces nine counts each of fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime after allegedly approaching younger Chinese residents in the North York area and saying he needed gas money to drive to university or to pick up family.
Police said the accused would allegedly request an e-transfer from the complainant, promise to pay the money back and allow them to take pictures of his identification to gain their trust. The accused would allegedly receive the e-transfer and then cease communications with the complainant.
Investigators are concerned there may be more victims in the North York area.

HAMILTON YOUTHS CHARGED IN THEFT PROBE
Two Hamilton youths, both of whom are 16 years old, face various charges related to vehicle thefts.
A male has been charged with possession over $5,000, two counts of occupying a stolen motor vehicle and theft under $5,000 (gasoline), while a female faces charges of possession over $5,000 and occupying a stolen motor vehicle.
Hamilton Police said that on Wednesday detectives witnessed a stolen vehicle drop off two people at another stolen vehicle before fleeing at a high rate of speed.
Investigators kept their attention on the two individuals who had entered the second vehicle and arrested them before they could flee. Further investigation revealed this vehicle had allegedly been used in a gas theft the previous evening.

YORK COP CHARGED WITH NUMEROUS OFFENCES
A York Regional Police professional standards bureau probe has led to multiple charges against an officer.
Const. Guangnan (Garry) Sun faces 23 counts of unauthorized use of a computer, two counts of breach of trust by a public officer and obstructing justice.
Sun began working with York police in August 2022 and worked in 5 District and the Community Resource Centre in Richmond Hill.
He’s been released from custody with conditions.

OSHAWA MAN ACCUSED OF GUN, DRUG OFFENCES
A 22-year-old man is facing drug and firearm charges after a bust in Oshawa.
Durham Regional Police said its gun and gang enforcement unit were investigating drug trafficking and illegal firearms in the region on Wednesday, when they made an arrest at a plaza in the Laval Dr.-Stevenson Rd. S. area with a loaded semiautomatic firearm allegedly found in the suspect’s jacket.
An overcapacity magazine, more than 240 g of cocaine and 350 g of fentanyl, worth about $100,000 in street value, were also allegedly seized after a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence in the Dean Ave.-Normandy St. area.
Antonio Nikolakakis was charged with possession of a loaded regulated firearm, possession of a prohibited device knowing no authority and two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

INCENDIARY DEVICES THROWN AT OSHAWA HOME
Police are on the hunt for a pair of suspects after incendiary devices were thrown at a residence in Oshawa.
Durham Regional Police said officers responded to a report of suspicious packages found Wednesday at about 8:40 p.m. in the Valley Dr.-Phillip Murray Ave. area, where two suspects threw a package through the front door and another through a window.
Police said the packages were incendiary devices, but were rendered safe by the explosive device unit.
There were no suspect descriptions, although police said they are looking for a dark-coloured pickup truck with chrome trim and a chrome gas cap cover.
