ARREST VIDEO SPARKS CONFUSION

There was confusion on social media as video surfaced of a man being arrested amid a search for a motorcyclist who is wanted in a hit-and-run investigation involving a police officer.

On Saturday, a Toronto Police officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by the driver of a motorcycle outside Rogers Centre. Police said a motorcyclist was popping wheelies before that in the Lake Shore Blvd. W.-Rees St. area and the officer tried to stop the rider at Bremner Blvd. and Rees, but was struck and injured.

Police said the motorcyclist failed to remain at the scene.

“The man arrested in the video is not the suspect wanted in a fail-to-remain collision investigation at Bremner Blvd. and Rees St.,” police said in an email. “In the video incident, a man was approached by officers for further investigation at Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., as he was wearing a similar helmet to the suspect sought in the above incident, where a police officer was struck.

This incident is now being investigated by the SIU and we cannot comment further.”
