CRIME SCENE: Two men injured in violent Scarborough home invasion

Two men were taken to hospital – one with serious injuries and one with minor injuries – following a violent home invasion robbery in Scarborough early Friday.
Toronto Police say several home invaders, armed with hammers and a knife, entered through the rear door of the house near Finch Ave. E. and McCowan Rd. around 2:15 a.m.
The bandits struck one victim with a hammer, threatened the victims with the knife, then bound all of the victims’ hands with zip-ties before taking a quantity of cash and jewelry and fleeing.
Police are looking for several men, believed to be 20 to 30 years old, who were wearing dark clothing. One man also spoke with an Indian accent, while another spoke with a Guyanese accent.
The bandits are considered armed and dangerous, police said.

MAN ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING TORONTO PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
A 38-year-old man is accused of assaulting a parking enforcement officer (PEO) in Toronto on Wednesday.
Toronto Police say the PEO was in the area of Robert and Harbord Sts. – just west of Spadina Ave. – around 1:20 p.m. when it’s alleged the accused got out of their vehicle, aggressively approached the officer, crumpled up his parking ticket and threw it on the ground before getting back in his vehicle and driving away.
It’s further alleged the accused made a U-turn and returned to the scene, then proceeded to throw two glass bottles at the PEO.
Andre Bertolo, of Vaughan, is charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and driving the wrong way on a one way street.

TORONTO MAN, 25, ACCUSED OF SETTING MULTIPLE FIRES
A 25-year-old Toronto man is under arrest after police accused him of setting multiple fires in Scarborough.
Toronto Police said officers responded to several calls in the early morning hours on Tuesday for fires within the 43 Division area.
Police allege that at approximately 2 a.m., the suspect was seen targeting a Mercedes Benz SUV on a side street in the Bellamy Rd. and Nelson St. area. The suspect allegedly placed an item behind the vehicle and igniting it with an unknown substance.
Cops also said two additional vehicles were set on fire a short time later.
Following an investigation, police said they were able to link the suspect to several other arsons.
On Thursday afternoon, police executed a search warrant and arrested the suspect.
Rajesh Chowdhury is charged with 10 counts of arson causing property damage.

YORK COPS ISSUE WARRANT FOR HAMILTON MAN
Investigators north of Toronto say a 40-year-old Hamilton man is wanted on a warrant after firearms were stolen earlier this year.
York Regional Police said officers responded Jan. 30 following reports of a break and enter at a commercial building in the area Hwy. 7 and Keele St. in Vaughan.
Police said the victim reported that a safe used to store firearms was stolen.
Following an investigation, cops said one suspect was arrested. A second suspect is evading the police as officers have been unable to locate him, cops added.
Olivia Jorge Alejandro Rodriguez is wanted for break and enter commit, three counts of break and enter to steal a firearm, disguise with intent, three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Investigators released the suspect’s image and are appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.
Police said Rodriguez is considered armed and dangerous. If seen, cops urge the public not to approach him but to call police immediately.
Police said two vehicles are associated to Rodriguez, a white 2022 Lincoln Navigator with Ontario licence plate DDZA 933, and a grey 2019 Mercedes G Wagon with Ontario licence plate DCXH 143.

CYCLIST BADLY HURT IN COLLISION WITH PICKUP TRUCK DOWNTOWN
Investigators are looking for witnesses and video after a cyclist was hit by a pickup truck near Corktown on Thursday afternoon.
Toronto Police say a 75-year-old man driving a grey Chevrolet Silverado was travelling east on Queen St. E. at King St. E. – just west of the DVP – when he allegedly struck a 29-year-old cyclist as he travelled west on Queen and was making a left turn onto King around 2:15 p.m.
The cyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

MAN, 64, BUSTED FOR OSHAWA BREAK-INS
A 64-year-old man is accused of breaking into two Oshawa businesses earlier this week.
Durham Regional Police say a man attended a business near Bond St. W. and Centre St. N. on Monday.
The man broke the front door to gain entry and stole a variety of items, police said, adding the same man then went to second business nearby, broke the front door and, again, stole a variety of items.
Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and arrested him on Wednesday.
Cecil Jackson, of Oshawa, is charged with two counts of break-and-enter commit – business.
