CRIME SCENE: Markham man, 35, wanted for attempted murder

A 35-year-old man is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the attempted murder of a woman in Markham earlier this year.

York Regional Police say officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Lee Ave. and Noble St. – near Kennedy Rd. and 14th Ave. – around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 21

They arrived to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chao Chen, of Markham, is now wanted for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Investigators have released his photo hoping the public can help track him down..

Chen is considered armed and dangerous, and if seen, citizens are urged not to approach him but to call police immediately, police cautioned.

Police are also urging the accused to seek legal advice and to turn himself in.

MAN FACES CHILD PORN CHARGES

A 58-year-old Toronto man faces child pornography-related charges.

On July 5, as part of an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material, Toronto Police executed a search warrant in the Keele St. and St. Clair Ave. West area.

It’s alleged the accused was found to be in possession of child sexual abuse material on his personal electronic devices

Shawn Barry was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of child pornography and accessing child pornography, and one count of making child pornography.

TWO CHARGED IN BRAMPTON DRUG BUST

Two Brampton men face drug trafficking and stolen property-related charges.

Peel Regional Police say officers executed a search warrant at a residential address in Brampton on Wednesday and during the search, investigators allegedly recovered a substantial quantity of suspected illicit substances, including heroin and crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated combined street value of over $110,000.

In addition, police allegedly located and seized a large quantity of stolen goods with a total estimated value of over $54,000.

Parveen Gill, 40, is charged with disobeying a court order, possession of stolen property and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine and heroin.

Gurpreet Mangat, 26, is charged with failure to comply with a release order, possession of stolen property and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine and heroin.
