Police say a woman in her 30s was in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon after a large tree branch struck her and a 10-year-old girl as they walked in the St. Clair Ave.-Avenue Rds. area.

The woman was taken to hospital with critical injures shortly after 3 p.m. and the child didn’t sustain any physical injuries, according to Toronto Police.
Eastbound lanes of St. Clair, between Deer Park Cres. and Avenue Rd., was closed for the investigation.
Murder charge laid
A man faces a murder charge after a victim was fatally stabbed in an Etobicoke motel room.
Toronto Police said officers were called around 9:20 a.m. Sunday to The Queensway-Royal York Rd. area where the victim and an assailant were allegedly in a motel room together.
The victim was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries after being stabbed, police said. The victim later died.
Tanas Shmagranovski, 57, of no fixed address, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police have charged a Hamilton man and a woman following the alleged discovery of loaded firearms and illegal drugs at a vacant property in the city.
Officers were called just before 2:25 p.m. on Sunday to a vacant residence after the homeowner reported unknown individuals in the backyard.
Upon arrival, officers located and removed several people from the property and during a search of the home, several individuals fled from the basement.
Police said two people remained inside a room where officers allegedly observed a loaded 9-mm handgun in plain view on a table. Further investigation allegedly revealed they were also in possession of about a half an ounce of methamphetamine and a quantity of cash, according to police.

Officers also allegedly located a sawed-off shotgun concealed under a sweater in one of the rooms.
Police said Steven Pacheco, 39, was wanted in connection with violent offences and faces three counts each of assault with a weapon and assault, and one count of assault causing bodily harm.
He was also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, proceeds of crime under $5000, possession of prohibited firearm and two counts of possession contrary to order.
Olivia Lauren Putignano, 32, faces charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, proceeds of crime under $5000 and possession of prohibited firearm.
