Toronto rapper Drake is set to partner with Live Nation to launch a new live music venue named History in his home city later this summer.
Located in the heart of the city’s Beaches neighbourhood, the intimate 2,500-capacity venue plans to host 200 concerts and events annually.
“Some of my most memorable shows were playing smaller rooms like History,” Drake said in a release. “I wanted to take those memories and what I learned to create an incredible experience for both the artists and the fans.”

“We saw an opportunity to bring Toronto a great new venue, and we have so much gratitude and respect for Drake teaming up with us to bring it to life in the best way possible,” Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino added.
History has been in the works for three years and is scheduled to be completed in the coming months at 1663 Queen Street E. at the site of the old Champions Greenwood offtrack betting location.

Offering fans “up-close experiences with their favourite artists,” the multi-level venue will easily flip between general admission format to reserved seating configurations and will host everything from concerts and live entertainment, to galas and community programs and events.
Juno Award winners July Talk will be among the first artists to play the venue as they announced two shows for Dec. 9 and 10.
