Driver dead after pickup crashes into TTC bus in Scarborough

Weather is among possible factors being explored by police in the crash

A 30-year-old man was killed when his pickup truck slammed into the back of a TTC bus in northeast Scarborough on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s not yet known if the nasty storm that hit the city around the same time played a role in the crash.

Toronto Police say the deadly collision occurred on Sheppard Ave. E. at Meadowvale Rd. around 6:10 p.m.

A man was driving a black Ram pickup truck east on Sheppard approaching Meadowvale when he struck the rear corner of an eastbound TTC bus that was stopped in the left turn lane at the intersection, Const. Stephanie Miceli explained Wednesday.

She said the driver of the pickup died at the scene and no other injuries were reported.

In the wake of the crash, reports suggested the pickup driver was “possibly ejected” from his truck.

The fatality occurred around the same time a severe thunderstorm with 100 km/h winds swept through the city, but Miceli said it was too early in the investigation to know if weather was a factor in the crash.

“This investigation is still ongoing,” she said. “All factors, including weather, will be part of the investigation.”

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers, who may have security or dash camera video of the area or incident to contact investigators.
