Const. Mandeep Khatra of Peel Regional Police was unsure where or when the shooting happened, only to say where the high-end luxury vehicle ended up — in a construction zone of the South Sheridan Way below the QEW.

“Our patrol officers arrived on scene and located a female victim,” Khatra said. “They rendered assistance to the victim.”

Paramedics transported the woman to a nearby trauma centre with “life-threatening injuries.”

Construction workers said she suffered a head wound.

“The victim still remains in the hospital fighting for her life,” said Khatra, just after noon, eight hours after the shooting.

Khatra said there were three women in the Lamborghini at the time of the shooting.

“From the investigation so far, we understand there were three people in the vehicle,” Khatra said. “And only the victim was injured.”

Large yellow tarps and paramedic gear could be seen beside the driver side of the car and at its rear as investigators flew a drone overhead and checked the exterior of the car for evidence.

Media crews who arrived early in the morning spoke with construction workers who said a woman came out of the Lamborghini and was distraught, asking if somebody would help their friend who’d been shot.

Asked whether the shooting was a drive-by or a potential carjacking, Khatra said, “our investigators are looking at all avenues.”

“And it is just being investigated as a shooting.”

Into the early afternoon, a long section of Mississauga Rd. was cordoned off by police investigators from Stonehouse Cres. near Holy Name Mary College westward towards Doulton Dr.

Film crews were in the area of the shooting filming various shows such as Law & Order Toronto, and a movie.

Jesse, who lives at the southeast corner of Gatley and Mississauga Rds., said he was awoken before 4 a.m. and said he heard what sounded like three shots.

“So overnight I basically heard three popping noises. I thought this was my dream or people doing something unusual in the morning,” he said. “And the first thing I find out in the morning is it is gunshots.”

Jesse explained they’ve previously heard “crazy sounds” like speeding cars in the morning on the long straight strip of Mississauga Rd. “but nothing like this.”

One of his neighbours, Cathy, who lives on the southwest side of Gatley Rd., said she was likewise awoken by something that sounded like three shots.

“I was unsure what gunshots sound like. I have only heard them on TV shows,” she said.

Another resident along a section of Mississauga Rd. said police recovered a pizza box found at the side of the road and put it in an evidence bag.

Home-video surveillance showed what looked to be the Lamborghini SUV driving eastbound along Mississauga Rd. at a slow speed and another car following behind it.

Both vehicles in the black-and-white video were dark in colour because of the time of the morning, but both looked to be hitting their brake lights as they slowed down.
