Firefighters rescue woman from Etobicoke house fire

Toronto Fire Services rescued a woman from a house fire in north Etobicoke on Sunday afternoon, however, authorities said the woman was critically injured in the blaze.

The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while three officers were also taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, Toronto Police said.

Just after noon, flames were visible at the two-alarm fire at the residence at 107 Upper Humber Dr. in the area of Finch Ave. and Hwy. 427.

“There were flames and smoke and as we were conducting a search we rescued a person from the residence,” said district fire chief Dan Vieira.

Crews had the fire under control by the mid-afternoon. A TTC bus was also at the scene to provide shelter for residents who had been displaced.

The cause of the fire had yet to be determined and the home’s structural integrity needs to be reviewed.
