Five would-be bandits – thought to be teenage boys – are sought for a failed jewelry store heist in Markham on Monday.

York Regional Police say officers responded to a report of a commercial robbery in the area of Hwy. 7 and McCowan Rd. around 5:30 p.m.

“The victim reported seeing three suspects approach the store wearing masks and carrying hammers,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk said Wednesday. “One of the suspects attempted to open the door but was unsuccessful.

“The group fled on foot, followed closely by two additional suspects,” she added.

The three primary suspects are described as Black, approximately 17 years old, wearing masks, all-black clothing and carrying hammers.

And cops said the two additional suspects are believed to be of similar description.

“Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who has dashcam or security video from around the time of the incidents that could help identify the suspects,” Moskaluk said.
