Fraud charges catch up to man from China on return to Toronto

A man from China wanted for bank fraud in Oshawa was arrested and charged after returning to Canada.

On Jan., 11, 2023, Durham Regional Police said the suspect allegedly went to a bank in the Simcoe St.-Windfields Farm Dr. area and deposited a cheque worth more than $47,000.

They said the man then withdrew large amounts of cash with the funds from the cheque, which was allegedly counterfeit.

According to police, he fled the country before being caught.

On Friday, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency contacted Durham investigators when the suspect returned to Canada at Pearson International Airport from the United States. He was taken into custody without incident.

Yuanping Lin, 26, from China, was charged with fraud over $5,000.
