Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised to support the family of three children killed by an alleged drunk driver over the weekend.
Launched by a family friend, the GoFundMe has surpassed its intended goal of $25,000 and was more than $132,000 on Tuesday morning.
“Even in the face of such unbearable loss, their mother …, and their only surviving child … are still hospitalized, fighting for their lives and showing great resilience in these times,” wrote the organizer of the fundraiser.
The deadly crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. on the Renforth Dr. ramp on eastbound Hwy. 401 in Etobicoke, when a silver minivan lost control at high speed and struck the family’s vehicle.
The crash claimed the lives of 13 and 15-year-old boys, and a six-year-old girl.
The children’s mother, her surviving 10-year-old child and a 40-year-old man remain in hospital.
Police arrested 19-year-old Ethan Lehouillier of Georgetown, who faces a slew of charges, including dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.
A Toronto court heard Tuesday that a publication ban is in place to protect the children’s identities.
