A black Honda SUV was travelling along Brimwood when it made a left turn onto Bridley and struck the teenager in a marked pedestrian crossing, Duty Insp. Brian Maslowski told reporters at the scene Wednesday afternoon.

The SUV then jumped the curb and crashed into a tree on the boulevard where it remained when responding officers arrived.

A pink backpack could also be seen on the street.

Maslowski said the driver of the vehicle — a 44-year-old woman — remained at the scene.

“Our heart goes out to the family of the victim,” he said.

Maslowski said the girl’s family had been notified of her death but the victim’s name was not released.

Traffic Services officers were still investigating, so no further details were immediately available.
