Peel Regional Police say the fatality occurred after two vehicles collided in the intersection of McLaughlin Rd. and Horwood Dr., north of Queen St. W., just after 8 p.m.
Investigators believe a northbound Honda Civic was attempting to make a left turn from McLaughlin Rd. onto westbound Horwood Dr. when it was hit by a southbound Volkswagen.
“The impact of this collision caused the Volkswagen to spin out and mount the sidewalk area onto the southwest side of the intersection, striking our victim, who was walking with a friend on the sidewalk,” Const. Richard Chin said in a video posted on X.
“The victim was transported to a local hospital where, sadly, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are, of course, with the victim and her family.”

UPDATE: - Anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage is asked to contact our MCB investigators at 905-453-2121 x 3710 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. pic.twitter.com/a3Sa1cS60Y
Chin said the girl’s friend suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The driver of the Honda Civic was arrested at the scene.
Mandeep Singh, 36, of Mississauga, is charged with refusing to comply with a demand for the approved roadside screening device, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and making a turn not in safety.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
“It does appear that alcohol was a contributing factor to this tragic incident and I would emphatically remind people to please do not drink and drive, have a plan to get home – whether that’s a designated driver, public transit or taxi,” Chin said. “Please, please do not drink and drive.”
Anyone with dashcam video from the area at the time, or who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police, is urged to call the Major Collision Bureau at 905-453–2121, ext. 3710, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
