GIVE HIM SOME SPACE: Photo shows person dressed as astronaut on subway train

Just as any payday awaiting MLB free-agent Shohei Ohtani in Toronto would be out of this world, somebody riding the rocket in Toronto on Thursday was seemingly destined for another planet.

A photo circulating on social media shows a person — seemingly a man — dressed from head to toe in astronaut gear.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the individual, seated and wearing an astronaut helmet, was destined for College Station, St. Clair West Station or the moon.

An account by the name of @BluejaysKing posted the photo of the social-media site X, along with the following message: “Taken at 12:30pm today Toronto’s subway line. Real photo. Caption this!”

One commenter chimed in with a doozy.

“Take ownership of the playoff meltdown or go to space,” the post said, followed by the name Ross Atkins.

Yet another commenter added this classic: “He took riding on the Toronto Rocket a little too literally.”

The commenter later said the astronaut-commuter got off at Bathurst Station.

It’s not the first strange sighting on the city’s public transit system.

In August, a man was seen travelling with a large fish he had hung from a subway rail.

In July, a man was captured riding on the TTC with a giant snake wrapped around his shoulders.

Ohtani, meanwhile, had the rumour mill working in overdrive and Blue Jays fans anxiously waiting on Thursday night to see whether the Japanese all-star would opt to sign with Canada’s only MLB team. Several reports have suggested Toronto is among the teams in the running to land the superstar.
