Gunman sought in carjacking that started with victim being rear-ended in Pickering

Police are seeking a suspect following an armed carjacking Monday night in Pickering.

Durham Regional Police said officers responded to the carjacking at Taunton and Altona Rds. at approximately 7:30 p.m.

According to police, the victim was travelling westbound on Taunton Rd. when he was rear-ended by another vehicle just west of Altona Rd. He then pulled over and exited the vehicle to check for damage.

While checking his vehicle, cops said the victim was approached by the other vehicle’s passenger, who then pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to his vehicle.

The gunman then got into the victim’s vehicle and fled westbound on Taunton Rd. while the driver in the vehicle that rear-ended the victim also fled in the same direction.

Police said the victim was not injured.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark SUV with no front licence plate.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 5-foot-9 with a slim build. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black medical mask, black puffer jacket, black cargo pants and black shoes.

Investigators are asking anyone with dashcam, cellphone, surveillance footage, or any information about this incident to contact the robbery unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
