A 19-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges following a violent carjacking in downtown Toronto late last month.
Toronto Police said officers responded to a call for a vehicle theft just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 in the Front St. E. and Bayview Ave. area.
Police allege two carjackers parked their vehicle in a parking lot and waited for a victim. They approached the victim as he was walking out of the parking lot and rushed him, assaulted him and then took his keys.
Cops say the car thieves then went back to the victim’s vehicle and drove off with it.
Following an investigation and with the help of Hamilton Police, one suspect was identified, police said.
Officers executed a search warrant Wednesday on an address and one of the suspects was located and arrested, cops said. An undisclosed amount of cash was also seized as a result of the search.
Elizjah English is charged with robbery with violence and two counts each of fail to comply and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Police said the other suspect is still wanted.
