“A grey Volkswagen Atlas was travelling on Ashtonbee Rd., east of Warden Ave.,” Const. Shannon Eames said in a statement released Saturday. “The vehicle then turned into a shopping plaza.”

“As the vehicle was travelling through the parking lot, it struck an elderly woman,” she said, adding the vehicle then drove off.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries

Investigators have released an image of the vehicle they believe fled the scene hoping someone recognizes it and comes forward.

Earlier in the day, another pedestrian was struck by an SUV and killed in Downsview.

Police say the fatality occurred near the westbound Hwy. 401 off-ramp to Keele St.

“A 67-year-old female was operating a grey 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe on the westbound Hwy. 401 off-ramp at Keele St.,” Const. Stephanie Miceli said in a statement released Saturday. “A 34-year-old male pedestrian was crossing Keele St. north of the off-ramp.”

She said the SUV turned right to head north on Keele and hit the pedestrian.

“The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” Miceli said.

She said the investigation is “ongoing.”
