HUNTER: 'F---ing lunatic' on probation stabbed victim 20 times

Article content
It would probably be fair to describe Anthony Oliveira as a ticking time bomb.
The volatile Durham Region man is now being hunted for the vicious stabbing death of Ashkan Pournasir-Roudbane, 36, of Toronto.
Law enforcement sources told the Toronto Sun Oliveira allegedly breached his probation for aggravated assault. He was also charged with mischief in Durham in May, as well as assault with a weapon and two breaches on June 1.
“And on June 19, he allegedly killed a man,” one detective told The Sun, claiming, “It’s just another example of the system allowing complete lunatics back onto the street when they should be locked up forever.”

Cops say the Toronto murder allegedly stemmed from a dispute or altercation behind a strip plaza in the area of Danforth and Hillingdon Aves. – east of Coxwell Ave.
“The victim was minding his own business,” the cop alleged.
What the beef was about is unclear, but Pournasir-Roudbane was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Sources said the victim had been stabbed at least 20 times in the heart, liver, pancreas and elsewhere. It was a massacre.
Late Thursday, homicide detectives named Oliveira, 24, of no fixed address, as the suspect, and he is now wanted for first-degree murder. This is a step up a very grim ladder.
Here is the hard talk.
On Dec. 21, 2023, Durham cops were called to an address on Cousins Ct. in Courtice. There, they found a man in his 60s with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives say the man had been brutally assaulted. He was fighting for his life at a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition.
Now, cops never say this, but detectives said they had “confidently” identified the suspect as – ta da! – then 22-year-old Anthony Oliveira. And they believed he was driving a 2009 Chevy Uplander with the license plate AWED 910.
What led to the near-fatal beatdown, or what the relationship was (if any) between Oliveira and the injured man, was not clear. Cops were tight-lipped. But Oliveira was charged and convicted of aggravated assault.
Even though the victim nearly died, Oliveira was soon back on the streets.
On June 1, 2025, Durham cops allege Oliveira was back in the mix in Oshawa. Around 10:30 p.m. in the area of Steeplechase St. and Windfields Farm Dr., cops responded to a call for an armed person.
A man allegedly approached a couple walking in the opposite direction, then, without provocation, pulled a knife and tried to stab one of the walkers. The man then fled. There were no injuries.
Cops claim the suspect is allegedly their old friend, Anthony Oliveira, who is now wanted for assault with a weapon, possession of weapons dangerous and, ahem, two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
Durham detectives were searching for Oliveira when fate allegedly put Pournasir-Roudbane on his radar, an encounter that ended in death. Pournasir-Roudbane was Toronto’s 16th homicide of 2025.
“If they had kept him locked up, Ashkan might still be alive. Instead, we’re again looking for this f—ing lunatic,” the detective said.
Oliveira should be considered armed and dangerous. He is known to use public transit throughout the GTA, including in Toronto, Durham Region and Peel Region.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call the Toronto Police Homicide Unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
