“The level of brutality displayed by these suspects is appalling,” Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a press release Friday. “The victim remained in hospital recovering from her very serious injuries for more than a week after the incident. Her family is understandably shocked and devastated, as any of us would be.
Police say they were called around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 to a home on Glenbury Dr., in the Centre St. and New Westminster Dr. area, of Vaughan for a home invasion robbery.
The 59-year-old woman had been home alone and had answered a knock on her door.
A man and a woman forced their way inside and hit her in the head and face with a handgun. They forced her into a bathroom while they searched her home. When they fled, the victim called police.

The woman suffered two broken orbital bones, a broken nose, a broken jaw, sprained thumb, a broken ankle and a concussion.
Investigators say they “do not have any information as to why this residence or woman would have been targeted” and “believe the suspects may have had the wrong house.”
Police noted it is “very rare” for them to release information on victims or photos of injuries.
