Man, 20, accused of assaulting Toronto parking enforcement officer

A 20-year-old man has been charged after a parking enforcement officer was assaulted while issuing a ticket downtown last weekend.

Toronto Police say they received a call for an assault in the area of Yonge St. and Gerrard St. E. just after 1:30 a.m. last Sunday.

Parking enforcement officer was conducting enforcement in the area and was in the process of issuing a ticket to an illegally parked vehicle, police said Friday.

Cops allege the motorist drove the vehicle toward the officer unprovoked. And as the officer stepped back, the driver allegedly steered toward the officer numerous times before driving off.

A suspect was subsequently identified and arrested.

Shahfaisal Qureshi, of Toronto, is charged with assaulting a peace officer while threatening to use intimidation of a weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31.
