Man, 26, busted for attempted robbery in Burlington

The knifepoint robbery at a Rogers store was foiled by a security guard

A 26-year-old man is accused of trying to rob a Rogers store in Burlington at knifepoint last week.

Halton Regional Police say the attempted robbery occurred inside the Burlington Centre Mall – located at Guelph Ln. and Fairview St. – around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

A masked man entered the Rogers store, brandished a knife and forced an employee into a back room where the bandit “obtained a quantity of cellphones,” police said in a news release.

“As the suspect attempted to flee the store, a male security guard intervened and the suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of responding HRPS officers.”

Police said the security guard suffered a “minor physical injury” during the confrontation with the suspect.

Muayad Al-Qaysi, of Mississauga is charged with robbery, wearing a disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and assault with intent to resist arrest.

“A black sedan was observed in the mall lot at the time of the robbery and investigators are requesting anyone with information regarding this vehicle and investigation, including anyone with security or dashcam video from the area between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2316,” police said.
