Man, 40, accused of stealing mail in Newmarket charged with fraud
York police are concerned there may be more fraud-related incidents that have yet to be reported

A two-month investigation into stolen mail and identity theft has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man.
York Regional Police say the investigation was launched after victims came forward to report missing mail on Dec. 4, 2024.

“It was determined that various banking and identification documents belonging to the victims went missing from their mailbox,” Const. Kevin Nebrija said Wednesday. “Shortly after, bank accounts and credit cards were established in the victims’ names.”
After a “lengthy investigation,” he said a suspect was identified and arrested on Monday.
“At the time of his arrest, an overwhelming amount of identification and other fraudulent documentation was located, none of which were in his name,” Nebrija alleged.
Jiaming Wang, 40, of no fixed address, is charged with seven counts of fraud over $5,000, six counts of obtaining credit by false pretenses, six counts of identity theft, six counts of identity fraud, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of identity documents, and theft under $5,000.

Investigators are concerned there may be more fraud-related incidents that have yet to be reported, so they have released the accused’s photo and are advising anyone who may have had contact with Wang to come forward.
