A man from Kitchener accused of assaulting a woman in Mississauga this week was arrested in Southwestern Ontario after trying to evade police capture.

Peel Regional Police said they received a report of an altercation between a man and a woman in the area of Mississauga Rd. and Meadowvale Blvd. at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

During the alleged incident, the man was reportedly seen striking the female and forcing her into a vehicle before leaving the area.

Chatham-Kent Police said they were contacted by Peel cops late Wednesday afternoon about a possible abduction.

After receiving more details from Peel investigators, cops in Chatham-Kent located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to pull it over.

“As officers initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated … at a high rate of speed, disregarding traffic signals,” police alleged in news release.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the vehicle was involved in a collision at an intersection but continued until it stopped due to mechanical issues, cops said.

“The male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot and attempted to evade arrest,” police alleged.

He was found by officers a short time later hiding on private property.

Chatham-Kent Police charged Bryan Devereaux, 48, with flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to stop after an accident.

The suspect is also facing assault and forcible confinement charges in Peel Region.

Authorities in Chatham-Kent say they are in regular communication with police in Peel and Halton Regions in relation to the ongoing investigations.

Peel police say the female involved in the incident was found and in good health.
