It’s another Wild West shootout that not just landed a man in hospital fighting for his life but terrifying residents in the Mayfield Rd. and Van Kirk Dr. area, not known for violence.
This is where families raise their children. This is where a lot of my friends live and rave about it. But with today’s gang warfare, gunfights can happen anywhere. They don’t care where they shoot or who they hit.

People on the scene describe hearing at least 20 gunshots. As the sun came up, people saw shell casings on the street and a car with numerous bullet holes evident.
A 22-year-old Brampton man was rushed to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. He’s remains in that condition. No suspect description or suspect vehicle description has been released.
“The victim in this incident was found near where the incident took place, however, the exact distance I don’t have at the moment,” said Const. Akhil Mooken, updating reporters at the scene.
“Our forensic identification bureau have already completed their preliminary investigation. They will be returning sometime during the day today…to determine how many rounds were fired.”

Sun photographer Jack Boland said he counted 10 bullet holes between two houses and three cars.

He showed a recent seizure that included a retrofitted shotgun and a rifle that looks like it could be a clothes hanger. Sleek and stealth, this illegal weapon could be concealed and brought in anywhere.
Thankfully, Peel police were able to grab it before it could be used for crime. Police getting the illegal guns out of communities should be the priority of the federal government, rather than targeting the legal and licenced ones for hunting or target shooting. The crime guns are what need to be focused on.

“The women and men of Peel Police continue to do their part in keeping our community safe,” tweeted Andrews. “Great work by 22 Division taking these two weapons off our streets and arresting the offender.”
In fact, for every gun they seize, there’s another batch being smuggled into Canada. When in the hands of gangs and criminals, these guns are deadly and wreak havoc in normally safe communities that pride themselves living a peaceful life.
What happened in Brampton overnight is the perfect example of what that carnage looks like.
