Durham Regional Police say officers were responding to a call in the area of Centre St. S. and John St. W. around 7:45 p.m. when a bystander approached them reporting an assault had just taken place.
“Officers were led to Memorial Park where they located a male who had sustained serious injuries,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said Wednesday.
“The victim was transported to a local area hospital where his injuries were determined to be critical,” he said, explaining the man was subsequently transported to a Toronto trauma centre.
Gluckstein said the assailants fled the area before police arrived in the park.
Anyone with cellphone, dashcam or security camera footage, or information about this assault, is asked to call police at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2765, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
