Just after 3:30 a.m., police officers entered an apartment at a Toronto Community Housing complex at 291 George St., near Jarvis and Dundas Sts., as part of a search for a missing Toronto woman whom police believe may have been murdered.
Upon entering the third-floor unit, police encountered a person with a gun.
Sources tell the Sun members of the Emergency Task Force engaged the man, which ended with two officers opening fire.
@TorontoPolice ETF Involved in shooting of what is believed to be a murder suspect. @SIUOntario Is investigating but my sources close to it indicate the police did an outstanding job in a very dangerous situation. The question now is who is the murder victim? pic.twitter.com/IBGtKzANuc

A witness near the scene told the Sun the man and woman were an ‘on-again, off-again’ couple, and the two had spent the weekend partying in the apartment.
Member of both the Toronto Police Homicide squad and SIU investigators spent Tuesday morning probing the scene for clues, both inside and outside the five-storey building.
Investigators also cordoned off the building’s dumpsters, gathering evidence and taking photos.
Anyone with information or video is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
