Man in custody after woman found dead in Ajax

Police took a man into custody following the discovery of a 45-year-old woman’s body in Ajax.

Durham Regional Police said officers were called to a building in the Shoal Point Rd.-Bayly St. area around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon arriving, they found the body and took a 35-year-old man into custody.  There was no word on whether any charges were pending.

“What seemed to be an unknown trouble incident last night developed quickly into a devastating loss of life,” acting duty-inspector Rob Williamson told reporters at the scene, according to Global News.

“It was 11:05 last night that we received a 911 call for an unknown trouble at 14 Hillman Dr. in the Town of Ajax. Officers at the scene located a 45-year-old female victim who had sustained serious trauma.”

The man and woman were the only ones home at the time, according to Williamson, who refused to comment on the relationship between the two.

He told Global News that the investigation is centred on the home, where the woman died despite the life-saving efforts of first responders.

Police did not provide information about the nature of the woman’s injuries.
