Man in his 30s shot dead at Brampton auto repair shop

A man in his 30s was gunned down at an auto repair shop in Brampton on Friday afternoon.

And Homicide investigators will no doubt be exploring any possible ties to the ongoing tow truck war that made headlines again in recent days.

Peel Regional Police say officers responded to the shooting in an industrial complex at 181 Rutherford Rd. S. – northeast of Kennedy Rd. and Steeles Ave. E. – shortly before 5:45 p.m. and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“He was transported to a trauma center where he underwent emergency surgery but sadly was pronounced deceased,” Const. Tyler Bell told reporters at the scene Friday night.

He said the victim, whose name was not immediately released, is believed to have been either an owner or an employee of the business and that it appears he was “targeted.”

“Whether or not this individual was the intended target, that’s always part of the ongoing investigation,” Bell said, explaining the man was shot inside of the auto repair shop.

He said the area was busy when the gunfire erupted but “miraculously” nobody else was injured.

“At any given time, we’ve seen tragic circumstances where people are caught in the crossfire of these acts, so it’s obviously concerning,” Bell said.

A description of the suspect or suspects has yet to be released.

Bell said it was too early to know if the shooting may be tied to the ongoing violence in the towing industry.

“I understand that’s top of mind, especially with the most recent press conference that we’ve put out,” he said, referring to the 18 arrests Peel cops announced Monday when they revealed details of Project Outsource.

“Whether or not it’s related at this point, it’s certainly possible, something that we’ll be looking into for sure,” Bell said.
