Darcy Higgins, 34, said he was passing by Ho’s Place near Church and Wellesley Sts. Monday morning around 7:30 a.m., when he noticed the animal trapped inside the hair salon.
“I was walking by, about to do some exercise in the park when he caught my eye right at the front door,” he said. “He was very focused about getting out. Not nervous about me at all. I just thought it was another bizarre thing to happen. We saw many episodes of wildlife coming back into cities. The raccoon is such a Toronto symbol.”
“Never a more Toronto scene. Even the raccoon wants a haircut!” Darcy Higgins wrote Monday in a Facebook post with the video.

The short clip pans over the window at the barber shop.
“Hey buddy,” Higgins says in the video. “Nobody got a haircut for a while, eh? You’ve been doing some damage.” In the background, a piece of what appears to a board from the ceiling and some insulation is seen on the floor.
“Is that a ceiling tile on the floor? I’m thinking maybe he got into the ceiling then fell through. Poor guy,” one person commented.
Higgins wrote he was able to connect with someone from the salon in order to let the animal out, but wasn’t sure what happened to the furry creature since then.
“Obviously, they’re not open, so I went through the BIA (business improvement association) and they said they were going to contact the owner,” he said.
