York Regional Police are not investigating Thursday afternoon’s fall from a ride by a 17-year-old girl at Canada’s Wonderland.
A police spokesperson said on Friday it was a medical call, so no criminal investigation is required.
“We attended at a call at the park at 2:42 p.m. (Thursday) for reports of an injured person. A 17-year-old girl was transported to a trauma centre.” the spokesperson said.
“There was nothing considered criminal in this incident and we stayed to assist paramedics.”
Police told 680 News on Thursday that the teen fell about 30 to 40 feet from the ride and was reportedly in critical condition.
A Canada’s Wonderland spokesperson released a statement on Friday saying: “On Thursday, July 11, at approximately 2:35 p.m, ride operators on the Swing of the Century reported a guest injury. Park medical staff and EMS responded, and the guest was taken to hospital.”
“An incident investigation is underway and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority has cleared the ride to re-open,” the Canada’s Wonderland spokesperson added. “The safety of our guests and associates is our top priority.”
The amusement park ride was previously called Swing of Siam, according to Canada’s Wonderland’s website. It was one of the 26 original rides when the park opened its gates in 1981.
The swing ride has free-hanging seats suspended from an elevated, rotating and slanting tower and can accommodate as many as 48 riders.
