North York synagogues allegedly targeted a third time by same man: Cops

The unidentified perpetrator who police believe vandalized signs at the same North York synagogue twice in December is now accused of mischief at three separate synagogues in one day.

Toronto Police say the latest incidents occurred May 18.

And they need help from the public to identify the suspect.

According to police, several callers reported a man attended three synagogues along Bayview Ave. between Finch Ave. E. and Lawrence Ave. E.

The man vandalized the signs on the front lawn and the building of all three synagogues, cops said. The man then fled the area.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged man with a medium build and facial hair who was wearing a dark green sweater, dark-coloured baseball hat and light-coloured pants. He was driving a newer dark grey Ford pickup truck.

Investigators released images of the suspect and suspect vehicle.

Back on Dec. 2, 2024, police said they received a call for vandalism in the Bayview Ave. and York Mills Rd. area.

It was reported that a man attended a synagogue and vandalized the signs on the front lawn. He fled the area in a newer-model pickup truck.

At the time, cops said the suspect had a moustache and was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and a Yukon-style hat.

Then on Dec. 20, 2024, police received another call for vandalism at the same synagogue.

Cops said the individual vandalized signs on the front lawn again before he fled the area in the same newer-model Ford pickup truck.

He was wearing a black jacket and a baseball hat.

All of the incidents are being treated as suspected hate-motivated acts by investigators.
