Canada’s annual inflation rate may have fallen to its lowest level since March 2021 but the cost of shelter is still the main driver of inflation as Canadians face significantly higher rents and mortgage payments.

The days of finding decent housing at a reasonable price is long gone, especially as rental properties are smelling the desperation from prospective renters and capitalizing on it.
The latest is a rental in Brampton that is trying to target trios for their “big room.”
The Kijiji ad reads, “One big room can accommodate family of 3 or 3 boys or 3 girls.”
After greeting “friends,” landlord Navdeep’s ad goes on to detail, “We have a big room upstairs, which can easily accommodate 3 family members or it could be 3 boys or 3 girls.”
Photos of the room show one twin bed and another twin with what appears to be a pullout bed on wheels underneath.

Given that the beds are right next to each other, it’s hard to imagine how the trundle bed would be rolled out every day and where it would go.
There are two dressers, two nightstands, a garment rack and a fireplace, so it appears the room is intended to be a living room.
In a refreshing change of pace, the photos also show stairs leading up to the space, so it’s not a dank basement for once but, rather, a bright space with an actual window.
The ad also boasts that it’s close to grocery stores, transit and banks, however it does not note the monthly rental rate.
