One person is in hospital in serious condition after 20 e-bikes caught on fire in a residential underground parking garage on Monday.
Toronto Fire were called at 12:30 a.m. to 564 Eglinton Ave. W., just east of Spadina Ave., for the three-alarm blaze.
“We responded to reports of a fire at an underground residential building,” said District Fire Chief Dan Vieira.
“We found a bunch — 20 e-bikes — on fire and we cleared the smoke and got the fire out. One tenant was taken to hospital.”
The person has serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Damages are still being assessed.
There was no immediate word on who owned the e-bikes or why there were so many.
“Toronto Fire Services is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into the origin, cause and circumstance of this fire incident. There are no further comments until such time the investigation has been completed,” a City of Toronto spokesperson said.
