Online seller of jewelry robbed at gunpoint in Pickering

A person hoping to sell a piece of jewelry online ended up being robbed at gunpoint when they met a potential buyer Monday in Pickering.
Durham Regional Police say officers responded to the robbery in the area of Marinet Crt. and Hillcrest Rd. – east of Whites Rd. and Bayly St. – around 8 p.m.
“The victim listed a piece of jewelry on Facebook Marketplace and agreed to meet with a potential buyer,” police said in a statement released Wednesday.
During the meeting, police said the would-be buyer provided the victim with an envelope in exchange for the jewelry.
“The victim handed the item to the suspect before realizing the envelope was empty,” police said. “When the victim confronted the suspect, the suspect produced a handgun and fled in a dark-coloured vehicle.”
Nobody was physically injured during the confrontation.
Police are looking for a man who is Black, 18 to 20 years old and about 5-foot-7 with a skinny build.
