A Jamaican restaurant was hit with nearly a dozen infractions from Toronto health inspectors on Wednesday.
Scotthill Caribbean Cuisine, located at 1943 Avenue Rd., offers authentic Jamaican food including oxtail, curry goat and saltfish, and is known for its in-house hot sauce and jerk marinade.

Much of the eatery’s seven significant infractions were equipment-related, including failing to provide a thermometer in its refrigeration equipment, utensils not being sanitized in the proper chlorine solution of less than 100 p.p.m. (parts per million), and mechanical equipment not maintained for rinse water.
Also, food equipment was not of sound and tight construction, so the food equipment was “not of readily cleanable form,” as were the utensils.
Inspectors also noted a dirty towel was used for cleaning surfaces that come into contact with food.
Three of the four minor infractions were related to the room where food is handled, from the space not maintained in a sanitary condition and not maintained with clean floors, as well as being used to store equipment not being regular used..
The fourth violation was failing to ensure equipment surfaces were sanitized as necessary.
