A lone gunman walked into a home in a quiet Vaughan neighbourhood and unleashed a torrent of bullets.
By the time the smoke had cleared, four people had been shot early Friday morning, one of them fatally.
York Regional Police initially said two of the victims were in hospital with life-threatening injuries, while two others suffered serious but non-life-threatening wounds. One victim has since died.
Cops said that at around 9:30 a.m., officers were called to a home on Casa Nova Dr., in the Weston Rd.-Major MacKenzie Dr. area, and found the wounded quartet inside the residence.
So far, York detectives have not released any information on possible suspects or a motive, but said they believe the shooting was targeted and there is no risk to the public.
One witness named Lorenzo — he didn’t want his last name used — said he heard about 10 gunshots, there was a pause and another five or six shots.
“Then I saw the guy take off, that’s it,” Lorenzo said. “It was very fast, within a couple of minutes. He came out, hopped in his car and drove away. He didn’t stay. He did what he had to do and he was out of there.”
Lorenzo told reporters that he lives down the street and it wasn’t the first time the home had been targeted. He said last Christmas two of the residents’ cars had been torched.
“It’s scary, you don’t expect it,” he said, adding the suspected shooter had an average build and left in a white KIA SUV.
“At first, I thought it might have been fireworks, a car or some kids messing around.”

Cops have revealed few details so far, including the name of the victim.
The brazen shooting came on the heels of another daylight slaying in Vaughan.
On Tuesday afternoon, Alisseaha Golar-Kotlar, 21, of Hamilton, was shot and killed following an interaction in the parking lot of the busy Vaughan Mills shopping centre.
She died in a hospital and York Regional Police said two people were charged in what they described as a targeted shooting.
“The relationships between the two accused and the victim are not known at this time, but we do believe that they are known to each other,” Const. Kevin Nebrija told reporters Wednesday.
“We do believe that this incident is targeted and there’s no threat to public safety. There are no outstanding suspects or vehicles.”

After Friday’s shooting, Mayor Steven Del Duca issued a statement addressing the killings.
“I know that this has been a difficult week for our community, as we’ve experienced two horrible incidents involving gun crime,” he said, adding, “I have been in touch regularly with York Regional Police throughout the week and I have every confidence that they are doing everything possible to keep our residents safe.”
Lorenzo added: “It’s a decent neighbourhood, but everywhere is getting dangerous now.”
