Search for man wanted in woman's shooting leads to another arrest

The hunt for the suspect in the shooting and robbery of a woman at a Brampton hotel earlier this year has led to the arrest of a another person on weapons and drug charges.

On Jan. 25 at 2:15 a.m., Peel Regional Police were called to a shooting at a hotel on Nexus Ave., near Ebenezer Rd. and The Gore Rd. and located a 20-year-old woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police say a man and a woman who did not know each other had an altercation which led to her being shot and robbed.

Niyo Tyrese Hill, 25, of Welland, was identified as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued for assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, robbery, discharge firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breach of probation order, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order.

In a release on Monday, police said officers executed a search warrant on Dec. 19 at a residence in Welland where they allegedly seized a loaded illegal Glock 20 handgun, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and large amounts of currency.

Nikkita Clarke-Banks, 27, of Welland, was arrested and charged with knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapons, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamines.

Police are not releasing the connection between Hill and Clarke-Banks. Hill remains at large. Anyone who sees him is asked to dial 911 and advised not to approach.
