On Jan. 25 at 2:15 a.m., Peel Regional Police were called to a shooting at a hotel on Nexus Ave., near Ebenezer Rd. and The Gore Rd. and located a 20-year-old woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Police say a man and a woman who did not know each other had an altercation which led to her being shot and robbed.
Niyo Tyrese Hill, 25, of Welland, was identified as the suspect and a warrant for his arrest was issued for assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, robbery, discharge firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, breach of probation order, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order.
In a release on Monday, police said officers executed a search warrant on Dec. 19 at a residence in Welland where they allegedly seized a loaded illegal Glock 20 handgun, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and large amounts of currency.
