Grieving relatives are shattered after five loved ones were killed and another seriously injured in Sunday’s shooting massacre in Vaughan.

“These victims have families that are suffering right now. These are human beings,” York Regional Police Chief Jim MacSween said Tuesday.
“These are people who had grandchildren. These are people who had loved ones and who were actually killed with their loved ones – their partners.”

Rita Camilleri’s family described her as “a smart business woman who had a contagious laugh and a zest for life.”
Camilleri, 57, was one of three victims who served on the condo board that is believed to have been targeted by the killer.
“She loved to travel, cook and host for her family and friends who she cared for deeply.”

Her husband Vittorio Panza’s family said he “was a very proud Italian immigrant who was a well-respected realtor for over 40 years and had a great passion for music.”
The 79-year-old father to three daughters also had seven grandchildren.
Among his grandchildren is Maple Leafs’ defenceman Victor Mete.

The team held a moment of silence for the Vaughan victims before Tuesday’s game.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are shocked and saddened by the tragic shooting that took place in Vaughan this past Sunday,” the team said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to Victor and his family, to all the families and friends of those affected, and to the local community.”
The Panza family said, “He was kind-hearted and a gentle individual who loved his family friends, and foremost, his entire family.”
