Perhaps there is some sort of chicken shortage no one is talking about but if your recipe calls for chicken breasts, you may want to try a different poultry.
Loblaw has been feeling the heat — but they refuse to stay out of your kitchens — ever since a CTV reporter tweeted “I beg your pardon” along with a photo that showed five boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a pack priced at $37.03 — which worked out to just under $27 a kilo.
But a new tweet recently compared the price of a pack of chicken from Loblaws and one from Sobeys and it’s a wonder why no one’s giving the latter store the gears.
Sobeys must be laughing right now - their chicken is priced even higher than Loblaws, but because they don’t have Galen Weston Jr. on TV as the face of the company, they avoided the outrage aimed at the Westons. pic.twitter.com/PBDW8DLYBX

“Sobeys must be laughing right now — their chicken is priced even higher than Loblaws, but because they don’t have Galen Weston Jr. on TV as the face of the company, they avoided the outrage aimed at the Westons,” read the tweet from T.O. Resident.
While Sobeys has yet to weigh in on what many are calling price gouging, Loblaw engaged and posted an Instagram video showing various packs of boneless, skinless chicken for sale titled, “So many chickens and #NoFowlPlay,” and chalking up the different prices to “inflation, supply chain issues and an avian influenza.”
At this point, customers don’t want to hear why; they just want lower prices.

“This is what Sobeys does when they put (out) new product and a price changes,” he continued. “I pointed this (out) to the meat guy and he got REALLY p***ed because he got called on it.”
He detailed: “I watched him take the older packs (there were two) on the meat counter, then called another, younger meat guy to put them back into the bunker and mixed them around,” he wrote.
Henry sent the photo in to the Toronto Sun after reading about Loblaw’s policies. “It’s not just them,” he warned.
At least Loblaw’ Real Canadian Superstores and No Frills locations price match.
