In one of the incidents, police say a boy aged 10-12 went to the front door of a house near Rodick Rd. and 16th Ave. – west of Warden Ave. – around noon on Wednesday.
When the home’s occupant answered, the child said he had kicked a ball over the fence and needed help accessing the backyard to retrieve it, police said in a statement released Thursday.
The resident escorted him to the yard to look for a ball but none was found, police said. The child left, and as the complainant returned to the front of the house, an unknown adult male was seen leaving the residence.
The investigation revealed that as the complainant brought the child to the backyard, a man emerged from a hiding spot and snuck into the residence through the unlocked front door. The man allegedly went through some rooms, stole cash from a purse, and exited the front door.
It’s believed the man arrived in the neighbourhood in a black 2020 Honda Civic with a faded licence plate.
Police on Thursday released a photo of one suspect and security camera video.

On Friday night, police said Ivadar Padure was arrested and charged with three counts of break and enter.
The second suspect is described as white, aged 10-12, 4-foot-8, with a medium build, wearing a black jacket and black pants with a white stripe on the side. He spoke English with an accent.
In an earlier incident, on Dec. 6 at 4:25 p.m., police said a boy and a girl told the occupant of a house near McCowan Rd. and Raymerville Dr. – south of 16th Ave. – that they lost a ball in the backyard.
The resident felt it was suspicious and refused to cooperate. The children left and no ball was found.
Although no theft occurred, police are trying to determine if there is a link between the incidents.
The investigation is ongoing.
