SUV sought in deadly 'targeted' shooting of man in his Markham driveway

A vehicle is now sought in connection with the deadly daylight shooting of a 44-year-old man in his Markham driveway last weekend.

York Regional Police say gunfire erupted at the home on Hepburn St. – near 14th Ave. and McCowan Rd. – just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the driveway of his residence,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk said Wednesday.

She said the victim, who reportedly lived in the home with his wife, was dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Partheepan Panchalingam.

Police have said he was known to police and that homicide detectives believe the shooting was “targeted.”

A man with the same name reportedly applied for a tow truck licence in Toronto in 2018, but cops have yet to say if the slain man worked in the towing industry.

“Investigators have now identified a vehicle of interest – a white 2002 to 2009 GMC Envoy sport utility vehicle – and would like to speak to anyone who may have information regarding this vehicle,” Moskaluk said.

An image of the SUV has been released in the hopes someone will recognize it.

Investigators are also looking for at least one suspect, who was seen wearing dark clothing in the area at the time.

“This incident is considered targeted and investigators are asking anyone who was in the area or lives in the neighbourhood to please check their security cameras and dashcam footage,” Moskaluk said.
