A resident found a stray dog who was brought into the shelter with elastic wrapped around her muzzle. The dog, whom staff at the animal services department named Honey, had a severe tick infestation and a broken pelvis.
“She was scared and in pain, but staff were able to gain her trust and develop a special bond,” said the post, which included photos of Honey when she arrived in their care. “After weeks of intense care, staff found her a foster home where she could continue to heal before getting sprayed.”

The outcome only gets better.
Honey’s foster family has now adopted her. Stacey Henderson’s family has also given Honey a new name. The pet is now named Bobbie.

Pickering Animal Services shared recent photos of the pet “enjoying her new, forever home” along with an update from the new caregivers.
“Honey (now Bobbie) has recovered from her spay nicely, and is very happy and comfortable in her new home!” the update read. “We just wanted to thank Pickering Animal Services for the important work that you do! Thank you for looking out for this sweet girl – for giving her a fighting chance at a better life despite her significant injuries, and for choosing us as her new family.”
Bobbie also now has a sister.

“She is such a sweet dog – she loves to play and is full of crazy puppy energy, but she also loves to curl up and snuggle with us, and her new sister, Nora,” the post read. “The two of them have definitely formed a friendship, which is really nice to see! We are really happy with how well she is doing, and with how quickly she felt at ease in her new home.”
City officials said another dog — which staff believe to be the brother — was found abandoned in the same area shortly after and brought into the shelter. He has since been adopted as well.

Pickering Animal Services credited the “kindness of community members” as well as PetSmart Charities, which provided the shelter with a $25,000 grant earlier this year.
