York Regional Police say officers began investigating on Dec. 9 after a student reported having allegedly been sexually assaulted by a teacher in September.
Charged is Andrew Hagerman, of Georgina, but the name and location of the school are not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused has been working as a high school teacher with the York Region District School Board and is also active in the community as a volleyball coach in Keswick.
Investigators are concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims.
Anyone with information regarding this or other incidents is urged to call the Special Victims Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7075, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
