The next night, as the city put on its first fireworks display in three years to celebrate Victoria Day, there were multiple incidents of youths shooting fireworks directly at people – including police officers – at Woodbine Beach.
One officer broke a leg while responding to a shooting call, two officers suffered burns and ear injuries when fireworks were thrown and exploded near them, and another officer was hit directly in the face by a firework causing serious abrasions to his face, ears and eyes.
The violence prompted police to step up their presence at Woodbine Beach for subsequent long weekends during the summer of 2022.
Anyone with information regarding the identities of the suspects in the latest stabbing at Woodbine Beach is asked to call police at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
