Crash driver says Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were drunker than him
In case you wanted to feel a bit of rage today, here’s one for you: The driver accused of killing NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew is claiming the brothers were drunker than him as he attempts to get his charges dismissed.
Sean Higgins, who is accused of hitting and killing the cycling brothers while driving under the influence in August 2024, is seeking to have his charges dropped — as his lawyer’s revealed the Gaudreaus’ blood alcohol levels at the time they were struck by the man who allegedly had chugged half a dozen beers before slamming into them, Dan Bilicki reported.
While the attorney did not argue in the new filing that the brothers’ blood alcohol levels played any role in the crash and also did not allege the brothers were breaking the law at the time, the filing seeks for additional information on how the readings were collected as the defence team plans to ask a judge to dismiss the indictment.

‘THEY’RE NUTS’: Kevin O’Leary slams Costco for doubling down on DEI policy
More and more companies are tossing aside their DEI practices following U.S. President Donald Trump executive order directing the termination of discriminatory practices in the federal government.
But Costco refuses to back down, which has rankled one of its more famous shareholders, millionaire Kevin O’Leary.
That resulted in the Shark Tank star blasting the wholesaler for maintaining its DEI efforts, calling the company “nuts,” saying it is “bad for business” and they need to “get compliant” with the new laws, Denette Wilford reported.
O’Leary also argued that in merit-based hiring, “you will find every race, colour, gender, everybody will come to the fore.”

WARMINGTON: Don Cherry happy so many Canadians in his corner as he turns 91
Feb. 5 marked Don Cherry’s birthday and the 91-year-old told Joe Warmington that he didn’t expect many people to remember — which, frankly, is nuts.
Aside from “all the messages and cards,” many took to social media to wish him well and sing “Happy Birthday,” while friends dropped by for a lovely visit.
The coach was happy to see so many people still in his corner on his birthday.
Grapes also joked that he’s “not as sharp” as he used to be but, pshaw. We know he’s as bright and quick-witted as they come.
He weighed in on the recent booing of the American national anthem, and while he admitted it’s not something he ever did, Cherry did acknowledge that it was freedom in action.
See, sharp as a tack.

LILLEY: Trump punches Canada hard with tariffs, warns us not to hit back
Prior to Donald Trump pausing tariffs on Canada and Mexico, he issued a warning to the feds through his Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, to not strike back, otherwise the U.S. would retaliate further, Brian Lilley reported.
Last weekend, the entire political and business communities sat on the edge of their seats waiting to find out if Trump would follow through on his threats.
A week later, and with three or so more weeks to go before the 30-day reprieve is up, and we still have plenty to be worried about.
Trump has been clear (well, as clear as Trump can be) in his statements and campaign promises, though it’s not clear how seriously Canadian politicians took his claims before last weekend.
Not that it matters, because one doesn’t need to agree with Trump’s claims to realize that not taking him seriously would put Canada in economic danger.

Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori shows up nude at Grammys — were they kicked out?
Bianca Censori made a bold fashion statement on the red carpet prior to last Sunday night’s Grammys — by dropping her black fur coat to the floor to reveal nothing more than a sheer mini dress as her proud yet grumpy husband Kanye West looked on.
It caused quite a disturbance in the force, shocking many who accused the rapper of forcing Censori to make the controversial move, Mark Daniell reported.
West’s appearance at the Grammys marked the first time he attended the awards show in a decade, but there were rumours the couple wasn’t invited in the first place.
Whatever the case, West and Censori didn’t stick around long enough to even see if there were seats for them.
They simply used the red carpet for their latest stunt, then left in a waiting car.
