The Toronto Sun takes you straight to the heart of the action.
Whether it’s local news, provincial and national politics, or the worlds of celebrity and sports, we have you covered.
Some stories set the world on fire. And these ones are the most popular online stories from the past seven days, clicked on by Sun readers like you.
Here are our top stories:
Wayne Gretzky as Team Canada’s honorary captain doesn’t score with everyone
Wayne Gretzky stepped on the ice at the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game between Team Canada and Team USA, where Canada’s honorary captain was both celebrated and booed.
The NHL’s all-time scoring leader’s accolades have never been in question and similar to Taylor Swift, it’s probably rare for him to get more jeers than cheers.
But his political affiliations have been a hot-button issue, Postmedia Sports reported, as The Great One has made several public appearances alongside Canada’s Enemy No. 1, U.S. President Donald Trump.
It probably doesn’t help that No. 99’s wife Janet Gretzky has supported Trump’s push to make Canada the 51st state.

How much did Blue Jays management sour on star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?
The bottom line on the Blue Jays’ failure to secure a long and prosperous future for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has nothing to do with the actual bottom line.
Funnily enough, in a league where money talks, it wasn’t money that was the issue in locking up a player that for a decade now was widely and universally considered the next big superstar of Blue Jays baseball.
Rather, Rob Longley reports that in the wake of Guerrero’s inability to snare a multi-year extension before his self-imposed deadline that passed on Feb. 17, the issue is what the team thinks of him.
When asked how the Jays would be equipped to chase Guerrero in free agency at the end of the 2025 season, team president Mark Shapiro was typically blunt and to the point.
“I’ll let you know in nine months,” Shapiro told reporters in Dunedin. “We are certainly positioned well. We have the financial wherewithal to pursue the contracts we want to pursue.”
Yes, sadly, it’s that simple — and for a jilted and loyal fan base, that insulting.

LILLEY UNLEASHED: Is Trump serious about Canada being the 51st state? Bannon weighs in
One of our most popular stories of the week was actually a recent Lilley Unleashed video in which Brian Lilley sat down with Steve Bannon in Washington, D.C., to find out more on whether Trump’s jibber-jabber about Canada becoming the 51st state is actually legit.
According to Trump’s former adviser, not really — but sort of? Bannon broke down and explained the importance of Canada to the American president, and how it ties in with the Panama Canal and Greenland from a geostrategic and geoeconomic point of view, and, well, just watch the video, Okay? It speaks for itself.

Family of Canadian who lost hands to shark describes ‘nightmare’ attack
The family of a Canadian woman who lost both of her hands in a shark attack spoke out about the life-altering moment a vacation turned into “a nightmare.”
The 55-year-old tourist was swimming on the Providenciales island of Turks and Caicos when she suffered the horrific injuries, where the animal first bit her thigh before “the shark instantly amputated both of her hands,” the woman’s brother-in-law wrote on a GoFundMe page.
As previously reported by Denette Wilford, the woman had only ventured “a few yards” into the water when she was attacked, according to officials.
“This is something that has completely altered their life in the blink of an eye,” the victim’s brother added, noting that any donations are greatly appreciated.

Pearson airport Delta plane crash: ‘We’re in Toronto … we’re upside down’
“We’re in Toronto. We just landed. Our plane crashed. It’s upside down.”
Those were the words of one of the passengers on Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, which crash-landed on Feb. 17 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport injuring 21 people, three of whom were hospitalized including a child brought to Sick Kids Hospital, Jane Stevenson reported.
Video posted by passenger John Nelson showed the dramatic turn of events on the plane that had travelled from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Toronto, while more clips and images from others were posted on social media showed the jet flip over on the tarmac onto its roof before passengers flee the aircraft as emergency crews respond to the scene.
Audio recording from the control tower shows Delta Air Lines flight 4819 was cleared to land at about 2:10 p.m., and the tower warned the pilots of a possible air flow “bump” in the glide path from an aircraft in front of it.
There were no further conversations with the Delta flight until the tower confirmed at 2:12 p.m. that a plane has crashed, with air controllers quickly redirecting traffic to accommodate the crash scene.
