The charges follow an investigation by the province’s Special Investigation’s Unit into an officer-involved altercation and shooting that happened on Feb. 12 in a intersection of Black Creek and Threthewey Drs. and a nearby park across from 12 Division.
Around 8 a.m. that day, police were alerted to a man in Trethewey Park E. wielding a knife and yelling at some people in the park about their dog.
After the incident, SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said a “confrontation” began between two men in the parkette. When two officers arrived, they unsuccessfully attempted to disarm the man, firing their Tasers — or conducted energy weapons.
“It’s unclear if the man was hit by the Tasers, but there are (spent) cartridges indicating that they were deployed,” said Denette.

A brief “foot pursuit” ensued and a third officer shot the man with the knife “multiple times.”
The SIU report released on Friday stated “two officers discharged conducted energy weapons at the man. Another officer shot his firearm twice at the man.
The man, 31, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Toronto Police Const. Andrew Davis is now facing two charges — one count each of aggravated assault and discharging afirearm with intent to maim, wound, disfigure or endanger life.
The officer is set to appear at the Armoury St. courts on Oct, 3 to face the charges.
“As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation,” the report said.
