Toronto cops lay charges in two suspected hate-motivated crimes

A 30-year-old Toronto man has been charged in a suspected hate-motivated crime after an Israeli flag was twice stolen from a vehicle.
Toronto Police alleged that a man approached a vehicle in The Queensway-North Queen St. area twice — on July 30 and Aug. 6 — and stole an Israeli flag on both occasions.
Husam Abu Hashem was charged with two counts of theft under $5000 and the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
In a separate caser, a man allegedly made hate-motivated threats and uttered slurs at a Scarborough mosque, according to police.
Officers descended on the mosque — in the Kennedy Rd.-Lawrence Ave. area — around 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 10 where it’s alleged an unknown man uttered the threats and slurs while inside the building before being forced out.
Robbin Lakatos, 41 is charged with uttering threats of death or bodily harm.
